Kid Cudi’s Got Style

Kid Cudi was selected as one of thirty’s “ Most Stylish New Yorkers ” by Time Out New York . Here’s some behind the scenes & his interview .

His style: “Simple and classic.”
His inspirations: “I always took [style tips] from my older brother and sister, who wore simple, classic things. But I still layered a lot, and in high school, I was a young young’un, all Phat Farmed–out, wearing Sean John, Ecko, Rocawear and Akademiks. I felt like I needed to buy what was cool, instead of just wearing comfortable shit. Now I feel like my personality is this character, and when you watch a cartoon show, the characters aren’t changing their outfit every 15 seconds. That’s why I wear the same jeans every day.”
Favorite local stores: “BAPE, A.P.C. and American Apparel, though I think I’m gonna pass on [AA’s meggings]. I never want to be with my girl and have trouble figuring out whose leggings are whose. I like What Goes Around Comes Around for old concert tees. Oh man, I got this Sgt. Pepper cartoon Beatles shirt there; it was, like, $300. I didn’t even know how much it cost—I thought it was gonna be, like, $80 at most—till I got to the register and was like, Oh mah gawd! Good Lord. But it’s classic vintage rock, you know? I also love Opening Ceremony—I bought five adult-sized Max costumes from Where the Wild Things Are there. I’m trying to do a denim collaboration with A.P.C., but I haven’t reached that yet. Hopefully they’ll read this and they’re down. Hint, hint, wink, wink, chop, chop.”
Biggest splurge: “I never look at the price; I just look for comfort. Of course, the more it costs, the more comfortable it gets.”
Favorite designers: “I love what [Tomoaki] ‘Nigo’ [Nagao] does with BAPE (bape.com), and what KAWS is doing for Original Fake (original-fake.com). I hated suits until I wore a Calvin Klein; they just fit me. But I don’t know high-end designers and shit; that’s not my world. I dabble though. I like Louis Vuitton accessories, but I’d never wear their clothes. No offense, it’s just not my steeze.”
On launching his own line: “Never. I’m a fan of fashion; I want to be the consumer. I know it’s cliché for artists to have their own brand and shit, but that’s too much stress. No colognes, no perfumes, and if I did, it’d probably be, like, eau de Egyptian musk.”
On sneakers: “I’m into them, but I don’t collect. Hell no, I’d never sleep outside the Nike store. For some shoes?!? I like to get one pair of shoes and wear them till they’re dirty. Besides, I don’t walk—I glide, like butter. Float like a vampire. I’m like Louis Vuitton, but smoother. He wishes he were like me.”
On his HBO character: “His style is just like mine—very fly-casual, a lot of earth tones, nothing too flashy. I even wear my own jeans the whole season!”
On New York style: “Here, people’s style is expressed more through their personality than what’s in at the time. You see all different styles in New York, and that’s what made me want to stay here. I experienced more in the first six years I was here than I did the whole time I was in Cleveland. It’s cool.”

Exclusive U.S.U.K. Interview!

Miss Artoholik
sits down with Chi-town’s own U.S.U.K for an exclusive interview. U.S.U.K. is blowing in like that Chi-town wind, taking no prisoners, and ready to leave their mark on Hip-Hop!

What is the official name of the group and how what’s the meaning behind it?

TimBuckTu: U.S.U.K, I was born in the US and Abstract was born in the U.K, So We put that together! Thats how we became U.S.U.K!

Who and/or what are your inspirations?

TimBuckTu:
Family and Friends. As well as my Community!

The Society where I come from motivates me to work harder. The people who live across the street from me or in the same building, people who come from the same conditions I come from and worse are my inspiration!

I enjoy the art form more than I enjoy the benefits!

Abstract: not really one to be inspired, music or anything .. i like a lil bit of all kinda music from pop, neo-soul to oldies etc. i do what i wanna do rather than look at someone else’s success

What makes you unique? What makes you stand out from other rappers coming out of Chi-town?

TimBuckTu: Im unique because of my sound! And the way I arrange my music. Its different because most artist thats mainstream will brag on what they got, Instead I will tell you how I got what i got so that you can get it to! I want the best for everybody, My music is like the best kept secret, i just keep it real and try to set the bar higher for myself cause I’m my only competition.

As far as Chicago artist a lot of them trying to sound like Kanye or Drake, I mean its easy to emulate someone else style when they hot, but its pointless cause they goon always be better than you, and when they are no longer hot, these swagger jackers gon have to jump on the next person bandwagon and try to emulate the new hot sensation to get attention. but hey before they know it, they gon be trying emulate my style. LOL!

Abstract
: as a producer it’s hard to sound different, I don’t think i stand out as much …

What’s your take on the state of Hip-Hop right now?

TimBuckTu:

Hip Hop right now is Changing! And the people who have roles in Hip Hop don’t understand where Hip Hop is going so it creates a lot of confusion. To me Hip Hop is not at its best right now only because of the transition that its about to make. The future is going back to the past, Its going back to when black people created Rock’n Roll as far as the look. The Lyrics are going back to the late 80’s and early 90’s.

Abstract: Nas was right hip-hop is dead. people make garbage and label it hip-hop. club bangers aren’t hip-hop. skinny jeans movement isn’t hip-hop. Real lyricists don’t get promoted half as much as these new young dudes who ain’t nothing real to say. I’m disappointed to know what we came from.

What’s the one thing you can’t leave the house without everyday (eg. ipod, blackberry, new era fitted, fave pair of kicks)?

TimBuckTu: As much as I hate talking on the cell phone. its gotta be my cell phone.

It got the internet, youtube, email, time, contacts, voice memo, calendar dates, pictures, camera, video camera, word document, Excel mobile, ESPN, Myspace, and every thing else that I use. LOL

Abstract: God .. simple lol

Make sure you check out their music video for their single “Long Shot”
